Your SMA energy system has learned that food is cooked at midday. If it is at all possible, cooking is to be powered by solar power. The sunny home manager shows that the washing machine should be run only after cooking is finished. Since the PV system cannot currently supply sufficient solar power, the cooker is powered from the storage system.

Early in the afternoon, the sun is coming out again. The sunny home manager knows that the PV system can provide sufficient solar power and suggests to run the washing machine now.

When the washing machine has finished its cycle, your battery continues to be re-charged — until it is full. Only the solar power that you do not require and that you cannot save is fed into the utility grid. This ensures that you use as much of your self-generated solar power as possible –this is the most cost-effective solution.

In the evening, the power required for cooking dinner, watching television and surfing the Internet is drawn from the solar storage system. Only when this is empty is power used and purchased from the utility grid.

The Sunny Home Manager 2.0 suggests when to use major power consumers such as washing machines, dryers and dishwashers to times when the PV system can provide sufficient solar power.

Using yield forecasts based on weather forecasts and your personal consumption, the Sunny Home Manager 2.0 knows in advance when sufficient solar power will be available and can suggest an optimal schedule for the use of all appliances.
