Integrated intelligence for future-proof system design
Sunny Tripower X 12 / 15 / 20 / 25
Sunny Tripower X, the new innovative system solution for commercial PV installations and successor to the successful Sunny Tripower TL30, offers system integration, pre-installed intelligence, and maximum flexibility. The robust and innovative product design and the opticool patented housing concept guarantee a long service life and excellent quality – made in Germany.
The integrated System Manager function with direct access to Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS monitors up to five SMA inverters and one energy meter. This enables the dynamic closed-loop control of active and reactive power via SMA Dynamic Power Control. Thanks to the wide input voltage range and the high input current capability, it is compatible with the latest generation of high-performance PV modules. The innovative enclosure design ensures efficient cooling of the electronic components and thus guarantees maximum lifetime of the Sunny Tripower X.
Commissioning can be performed quickly and easily as well as centrally for all devices in the system. During operation, users benefit from integrated software solutions: SMA ShadeFix increases PV yields even in the event of partial shading, while SMA ArcFix detects electric arcs effectively and reliable.

FAQ
General information
Are surge arresters integrated?
Surge arresters can be optionally integrated on the DC side. As an accessory to the Sunny Tripower X, the surge arresters type 1+2 and type 2 will be offered.
How much noise does the Sunny Tripower X emit?
The noise emissions amount to less than 59 db(A). For details, see the datasheet.
Can I extend the warranty for the Sunny Tripower X?
Yes, you can extend the warranty to 10, 15 and 20 years. To do so, submit a request to SMA: https://my.sma-service.com/s/osc-30-warranty-extension
How long is the warranty for the Sunny Tripower X?
The standard warranty for the Sunny Tripower X is 5 years.
Compatibility
Can the Sunny Tripower X be integrated into a single system along with Sunny Tripower Smart Energy?
Yes, together with the Sunny Tripower Smart Energy, the Sunny Tripower X can be integrated into a system via Sunny Home Manager 2.0.
Can the Sunny Tripower X also be combined with the SMA EV Charger?
Yes, the Sunny Tripower X can be combined with the SMA EV Charger via Sunny Home Manager 2.0.
Is the Sunny Tripower X compatible with the SMA Home Manager?
Yes, the Sunny Tripower X can be used in systems with an SMA Home Manager. The prerequisite for this is that the Sunny Tripower X is configured as a subordinate inverter.
Is the Sunny Tripower X compatible with the SMA Sensor Module (MD.SEN-40)?
Yes, the SMA Sensor Module is available as an accessory for the Sunny Tripower X. The following restrictions on use apply:
The MD.SEN-40 is compatible with the Sunny Tripower X 12 / 15 / 20 / 25 with hardware version A3 or newer. The hardware version can be found on the packaging label of the SMA Sensor Module.
If the SMA Sensor Module is used in the Sunny Tripower X, you may only connect signal sources (e.g., irradiation sensors) with current signals to the analog input of the SMA Sensor Module.
The S0 interface of the SMA Sensor Module cannot be used for the Sunny Tripower X. It is therefore not possible to operate an anemometer or energy meter with the Sunny Tripower X by connecting them to the S0 interface of the SMA Sensor Module.
System Manager
After commissioning and configuring the Sunny Tripower X (in systems without Sunny Home Manager), the Sunny Boy Storage switches into a standby mode as System Manager. What do I need to do to enable the Sunny Boy Storage to start operation?
To start the Sunny Boy Storage, you must set the parameter Operating mode active power setting from External setting to Off in the Sunny Boy Storage.
What is a System Manager?
In connection with an energy meter, an SMA System Manager takes over closed-loop control at the point of interconnection and can control or regulate subordinate inverters. The System Manager also takes over system monitoring and communication to the Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS.
The SMA Data Manager or Sunny Tripower X can currently be configured as System Manager. More devices will follow.
The Sunny Home Manager can be used as a superordinate device but is not able to fully perform the functions of the System Manager. For example, the Sunny Home Manager cannot be used for reactive power control.
How can I configure systems with the Sunny Tripower X according to VDE-AR-N-4105?
The commissioning wizard of the SMA System Manager is designed to help you configure the reactive power control in accordance with VDE-AR-N-4110. The VDE-AR-N-4110 requires using the point of interconnection as the reference point for grid management services. It is therefore not possible to use the commissioning wizard and the grid management service configuration wizard to configure the reactive power control of systems in the low-voltage grid in accordance with VDE-AR-N-4105. The commissioning wizard or grid management service configuration wizard can only make the settings for active power control at the point of interconnection.
The detailed procedure for configuring systems with and without the System Manager in accordance with VDE-AR-N-4105 is described here: https://files.sma.de/assets/280451.pdf
Inverter as subordinate
How do I set the country data set for a subordinate inverter?
For inverters with a firmware version ≤ 02.02.06.R, the country data set must be set at the device level via the Set country standard parameter after completing the commissioning wizard.
For inverters with firmware version 03.02.08.R or newer, the country data set of subordinate inverters can be set via the commissioning wizard.
Communication
Why do I no longer reach the Sunny Tripower X via http://SMA[serial number] or http://SMA[serial number].local?
From firmware version 03.02.07.R the transmission protocol of Sunny Tripower X has changed from http to the secure transmission protocol https. The user interface of the Sunny Tripower X is accessible via https://SMA[serial number] or https://SMA[serial number].local from firmware version 03.02.07.R.
External I/O systems
For analog signals from the grid operator, can I connect a MOXA or WAGO device via Modbus directly to the Sunny Tripower X (without Data Manager)?
Yes, this is easily possible.
