10 MW New South Wales 2021

Located in Oberon, in NSW’s Blue Mountains, lies a 10 MWDC photovoltaic solar system atop Australian Panel Products’ (APP) enormous particleboard production and distribution facility. The system covers approximately eight hectares of roof space with around 27,000 panels.

The system was rolled out in two stages; a 2 MW system utilising 28 of SMA’s Sunny Tripower CORE1 50,000TL inverters, followed by an 8 MW extension of this system after the expansion of the facility, complete with 53 of SMA’s Sunny Tripower CORE2 110,000 TL inverters.

The system is a significant achievement in the field, dwarfing the previous record for rooftop systems of 3 MW. It will generate 14 GWh of clean energy each year, all to be consumed by APP behind-the-meter at the Oberon facility, covering up to 10% of the site’s total energy demand. Another great feature of this system is the near 15,000 tonnes of CO₂, emissions that would otherwise be released if the daily operations were to be powered exclusively from the grid network.
